WHAT IS ULTRA-WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE?
In-car video evidence has come a long way in the last decade, but one nagging problem has stuck around for too long: those blown-out license plates and terribly overexposed and underexposed video during difficult lighting conditions. Remember the last time you were driving into the sun? Take a look at that video. Chances are you have a blown-out, potentially useless video of the sun, while missing much of the detail the system was intended to capture.
In 2012, WatchGuard introduced the law enforcement in-car video market to a great new technology to help solve this problem. Our Zero Sightline HD , HD Mini Zoom, Panoramic X2 and Vista Body cameras utilize a revolutionary dual-exposure, Ultra-Wide Dynamic Range (U-WDR) technology that dramatically improves nighttime video quality. For every frame of video, the camera actually takes 2 separate images (a dark exposure and a light exposure) and automatically blends the two images into a single video frame. The result is an ideally exposed picture that prevents bright areas from being over-exposed and darker areas from turning black.
- License plates become legible at night
- Identify make and model of vehicle in difficult lighting
- Capture small details in the areas of video that would normally be indistinguishable
