Overview

The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, including process flows, policies, practices and procedures, internal controls and reporting. The Controller directs and manages the Accounting Manager and ensures financial reporting is compliant with General Accepted Accounting Principles.

An analytical problem solver who is technically strong and has the confidence in their ability to get things done quickly and correctly. This person should also have the ability to motivate their staff to produce quality reporting within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Direct and manage the Accounting department
  • Work with the Accounting Manager to ensure financials are prepared timely and accurate
  • Communicate monthly results to the CFO and Company President
  • Prepare the monthly Financial Package for senior management
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of costs and provide monthly operational analysis to senior management
  • Review and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets
  • Insure balance sheet reconciliations are complete and accurate
  • Understand and document inventory and accounting process flows. Suggest and implement process improvements
  • Primary executory of bank wires and signatory on cash disbursements
  • Coordinate and manage the company’s physical inventories
  • Prepare and file the company’s annual property tax report
  • Prepare monthly commission report
  • Coordinate and manage the company’s bank and annual financial statement audits
  • Work with manufacturing in determining labor and overhead rates and updating system with such information
  • Develop KPI’s for the department and hold staff responsible for achieving targeted results
  • Design, establish and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department’s goals and objectives
  • Stays current with GAAP technical updates and suggests ways of keeping the company in compliance when necessary
  • Drive accounting department towards process and reporting improvements
  • Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with an understanding of inventory and bill of materials
  • Experience as a Controller in growing and motivating an accounting department in a $100M or larger organization
  • A history of process improvements in mid to large companies
  • ERP software experience, Great Plains preferred
  • Software as a service experience helpful
  • Public company experience is preferred but not required
