In-Car Video Upgrade for UK’s West Yorkshire Police Force

Tags: , ,

The West Yorkshire Police Force has upgraded its in-car video system to WatchGuard Video’s 4RE HD Panoramic In-Car Video System.

For one of the largest police forces in the UK, an upgrade in technology was desperately needed. “We needed to find a new video system that was reliable, easy to use and good quality.”

The 4RE in-car video system for UK law enforcement has given the police constables a simple, hands-off approach to evidence gathering. “If you don’t have good quality video, you don’t have good quality evidence.”

“West Yorkshire’s in the north of England and West Yorkshire Police is the fourth largest force in the country. We cover an area of approximately 780 square miles and we serve 2.2 million people.

“I’ve been in the police service for 15 years, 11 of those years have worked in road policing.

“We needed to find a new video system that was reliable, easy to use and good quality. A lot of the systems on the market were actually quite old, maybe 10 years old, and the developers hadn’t actually worked on them, developed the product, to the point where we were just buying old technology.

“I found the WatchGuard system on the internet, and very quickly, we were set up with a demonstration kit. And we tested it and found quite quickly that it was everything we needed.

“So, we got the new system in and — officers don’t like change — so I was a little bit apprehensive of how everybody would take a new system. But in reality, people have taken to it and even the most technically challenged officers have found it easy to use.”

Paul Feather, Police Constable

“The WatchGuard system for us, it makes our job easier really because we don’t have to do anything other than logging into the computer in the car and saving things as we go along. It’s very user-friendly and the clarity of it is the second to none. It’s really good.”

Michael Jessop, Police Constable

“It’s really easy to be able to go into the system and find something back in time. I’m not a very computer literate person — even I can manage WatchGuard.”

Darren Wood, Police Constable

“We found this system to be really efficient and it keeps officers on the streets for longer. They’re spending less time burning DVDs and having to administer all the footage and we’ve found that working with WatchGuard to be really easy.

“Most important we found it reliable and good quality video. And if you don’t have good quality video, you don’t have good quality evidence.”
